College is fantastic. Acting I is fantastic. Intro to Theatre is fantastic. Japanese I is fantastic.
I finally got around to making some friends outside my typical sphere. There's plenty of interesting people and I just need to get better at looking for them.
I'm finally reading some more Murakami. One of my new friends, Melissa, is loaning me "after the quake", a series of short stories that Murakami wrote after the 1995 earthquake in Kobe that killed so many. It's reinforced my belief that he truly is a genius.
I've looked into a few clubs so far. First, I tried "FL Players", the UF theatre club. I declined membership after I found out about their point system that forces you to participate in more than just acting. Chris Mullet joined and I wish him the best of luck. (By the way, I heard that you didn't get cast in WASP, Chris. Think about it this way: you won't have to listen to that Kendrick guy's voice.)
After the fiasco of FL Players, I went to the next logical step: GatorAnime, the JAP-AS of UF. Bear in mind that when I say "the JAP-AS of UF", I mean it. I thought that college students would be a little more mature, but it turns out that they too like to make unnecessary comments while officers are talking, talk during the film, and just generally annoy the crap out of me.
Thinking that the third time would be the charm, I tried something slightly off the beaten path. I joined the fencing team. However, I didn't go in alone. I managed to drag Hix with me. We've only had one real practice that was all about advancing and retreating, but once we get to the actual weapons part, Hix and I are planning on going the way of the foil. Bubbly, indeed. All in all, the decision to join the fencing club seems to be a wise and fun choice.
Unfortunately, there's the chance that fencing will interfere with my other obligation. You see, I'm assistant stage managing for "Hello, Dolly!". I missed the semester audition due to ill preparedness so hopefully this experience will make up for it. On the plus side, if I don't get cast for a show, I can always rely on ASM after this.
We've had a few get-togethers over the past few weeks. We had tacos over Labor Day weekend (Zangre paid a visit). Tonight, we had a chicken dinner with Kayla and Isabel to commemorate the beginning of Season 3 (they don't have a TV). The best part of all of this is that Tony can cook. Randy and I are fairly incompetent in the kitchen, but Tony... man. His food is so good.
Also, I've caught a cold. Excruciating sore throat for two days, now it's a nasal thing where I keep sneezing. I hope I don't stay sick for too long.
Lastly, but certainly not least importantly, Ackbar arrived.

This is our current window layout.
The best part was that the next morning after we first put him up, our next door neighbors put up a sign in their window that said, "It's a trap!"
Life IS like a boat.
